Kamo-gawa River at Demachiyanagi Station, 5-22-2012

8:30 - 9:00, Mostly cloudy, About 19 degrees C

Birds seen:

Great Cormorant  2 juveniles sunning themselves standing on rocks in the river

Gray Heron  1

Little Ringed Plover 1 male/female pair, calling and foraging together on rocky sandbar

Black Kite 1 soaring

Domestic Pigeon 1 flying

Barn Swallow  5 flying low above the river, catching insects. Also, chicks still in nests under eaves on nearby streets, and also some adults trying to build new nests under some other eaves

White Wagtail  1 foraging

Japanese Wagtail  3  foraging

Oriental Greenfinch  3 adults, and about 10 juveniles with the adults, feeding on seeds in riverside grasses, and foraging for insects (I guess) among small stones on the rocky sandbars

Tree Sparrow  3 foraging. Many, many others cheeping in nearby trees and bushes

Carrion Crow  1 adult and 1 juvenile, foraging (for what?) along the water's edge on rocky sandbar





Once the adult fed something to the juvenile.
